For the past 12 years, the founding members of EDS West Connect have been raising awareness of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and providing support and advocacy to EDS patients and the medical community. In 2023, we officially became a 501c3 nonprofit. EDS West Connect is dedicated to the empowerment & protection of EDSers, by providing valuable education, outreach and advocacy to patients and their support networks so that people with EDS can do more than just survive, they can thrive. Expectations of the Board as a Whole

As a member of the EDS West Connect Board of Directors, you will be expected to:

- Actively participate in board meetings, committee meetings, and special events.

- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to advance the organization's mission and goals.

- Serve as an ambassador for EDS West Connect, advocating for the needs of individuals and families affected by EDS.

- Contribute to fundraising efforts and help secure financial resources to support our programs and services.

- Collaborate with fellow board members, staff, and volunteers to achieve organizational objectives.

- Adhere to ethical and legal standards, including fiduciary responsibilities, in governing the organization.

Purpose:

The Treasurer shall be responsible for conducting the financial affairs of the organization as directed and authorized by the Board of Directors and shall make reports of finances as required, but no less often than at each scheduled meeting. The books of account shall, at all reasonable times, be open to any member of the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Service as financial officer of the organization and as Chairperson of the finance committee

  • Convene a financial committee as necessary

  • Works with the President/ED to develop fiscal policies for recommendation to the Board to ensure the long-term financial strategies, financial integrity and sustainability of the organization

  • Keeps currently informed of legal and non-profit sector developments relating to the Board’s financial responsibilities

  • Manage the board’s review of and action related to the boards’ financial responsibilities

  • Perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors and by the Bylaws.

  • Give a meaningful, personal or through your network financial donation

  • Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission.

  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to support the organization achieve it’s mission

  • Attendance at all board meetings

  • Manages, with the finance committee if convened, the Board’s review of, and action related to, the Board’s financial responsibilities

  • Works with the President/ED to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board on a timely basis.

  • Submit monthly financial report to the Board

  • Review and audit Quickbooks or approved equivalent, monthly

  • Assists the President/ED in preparing the annual budget, and presenting the budget to the Board for approval.

  • Filing of annual tax documents and other appropriate financial reports with Federal, State and local entities.

  • Ensure audited financial statements are presented to the Board on an annual basis

  • Calls the motion at Annual Meeting to appoint the Auditor

  • Review the annual audit and answer Board of Directors questions about the audit



Qualifications:

Required

Preferred

Registered as a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) in California

Connections to potential donors, sponsors, or community partners that can support fundraising efforts.

Understanding of financial accounting for non-profit organizations

Ability to interact with board officials, directors and the organization’s leadership team, all of whom come from multiple business or cultural backgrounds

Be aware and abstain from any conflicts of interest

Must be at least 18 years of age, citizen of the USA and not currently personally in

bankrupt status

Must be a resident of the State of California

Previous experience serving on a nonprofit board or volunteer committee.

Passion for the mission of EDS West Connect and a commitment to making a difference.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.

Demonstrable familiarity with accounting and financial software systems.

EDS West Connect is dedicated to the empowerment & protection of people with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, by providing valuable education, outreach and advocacy to patients and their support networks so that people with EDS can do more than just survive, they can thrive.

Description

The founders have been doing advocacy and education for over a decade but we finally became an official 501c3 in spring of 2023! We have a small Board of Directors but we need more. We serve the Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara counties in Southern California with hope of expanding as we go. We have fundraising goals and outreach goals. We need to develop our programs. We need a Treasurer. We need a volunteer Grant Writer. We need volunteers to help with many tasks to help us get off the ground. We are reaching around 3000 per month on our social media platforms so far.
