MY TURN, Inc. (a non-profit organization) seeks self-motivated and compassionate volunteers to assist adult education students. Candidates from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, however, there is a strong need for math and English language tutors. We also have a need for volunteers to complete administrative assistant tasks and clean the classroom. Volunteer candidates should:

  • Submit a resume. (A short work history should not discourage your application.)
  • Complete a criminal background check. (Paid for by MY TURN. Not all records are disqualifying. Results are kept confidential.)
  • Be able to commit to volunteer several hours per week for a least a period equivalent to at least one semester. (We are also open during the summer term.)
  • Communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator about scheduling needs.
  • Keep attendance records and report these regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students.
  • Never meet students at private residences.
  • Communicate concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible.
There is the possibility to combine more than one volunteer position. CLASSROOM HOUSEKEEPER: Classroom cleaners maintain the offices and classroom only. Light classroom cleaning is shared with all MY TURN employees. The public restrooms and lobby are not included as these are professionally cleaned. Sometimes work can be quietly completed with students present, but not during testing. All MY TURN employees help keep the classroom and offices clean, so volunteers that can provide deep cleaning, which is greatly appreciated. Duties include:
  • Building and maintaining rapport with students
  • Clean computer keyboards and screens
  • Wiping down tables
  • Organizing bookshelves
