Recruiting Organization: Save the Water™

  • This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity, and as an Associate, you are required to contribute a minimum of 5 hours per week.
  • Associates must be willing to attend weekly/bi-weekly virtual meetings in EST Timezone and be responsive to emails within 36 hours.
  • STW™ will provide a "letter of recommendation" to professionals who are able to showcase outstanding performance for professional references.

Save the Water™ is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to conduct water research to identify and remove harmful contaminants in water, and to raise public awareness about water contamination and its health impacts. STW™ also offers educational programs to excite young minds about water science.

Our volunteers are diverse professionals from all over the world bringing their knowledge and experience to STW™ because we care deeply about our communities and water resources. We learn and collaborate in an open and empowering work environment to find long-term solutions to the water contamination problem. Our vision is "Contamination free, healthy water for all."

The Role:

  • Work with different teams within the Technology department (UX Design & Development, Webmasters) to help develop the website.

What you will be responsible for......

  • Report to Project Leader for the given project team.
  • Attend monthly Technologymeeting.
  • Complete the timesheet at least on a weekly minimum basis.
  • Assist the Technology team and the Organization with developing and modifying Wordpress themes and plugins.
  • Design and implement new features, enhancements to the existing website.

  • Minimal 1-year of professional experience with WordPress & back-end PHP Development.
  • Experienced in developing themes and plugins for WordPress.
  • High competency with Wordpress best Practices, and front-end web development.
  • Strong knowledge of current web development languages such as PHP, HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript/jQuery and MySQL.
  • Familiar with the understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.
  • Ability to clearly understand design requirements.
  • Skilled in writing clean and efficient code conforming to the W3C Standards.
  • Experienced in developing fully responsive websites.
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization and Website Optimization.
  • Experience with Git and SVN is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department.
  • Associates degree completed or equivalent work experience (6 months to 1-year full time paid corporate/non - profit work experience).
