Role: Chairman

Primary Role:

  • Develops the agenda for board meetings and provides strategic leadership to the board.
  • Ensures the board functions effectively and fulfills its responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership and Governance:
  • Lead the board in overseeing the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with its mission and vision.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration and mutual respect among board members.
  • Act as a key spokesperson for the organization, advocating for its mission and vision within the film industry and broader community.
  1. Board Meetings:
  • Develop and distribute agendas for board meetings, ensuring key issues are discussed and addressed.
  • Chair board meetings, facilitating productive discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure minutes of board meetings are accurately recorded and distributed.
  1. Strategic Planning:
  • Guide the board in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Ensure that the organization’s goals and initiatives are aligned with its mission and vision.
  1. Financial Oversight:
  • Ensure the organization’s financial health and sustainability.
  • Work with the board and executive team to develop and approve annual budgets.
  • Oversee financial performance and ensure accountability in financial practices.
  1. Fundraising and Donations:
  • Personally contribute $150,000 annually in donations to support the organization’s initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in fundraising efforts, leveraging personal and professional networks to secure additional funding.
  • Encourage and support board members in their fundraising efforts.
  1. Board Development:
  • Lead efforts to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse and effective board.
  • Ensure ongoing education and development opportunities for board members.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of the board’s performance and effectiveness.
  1. Collaboration with Executive Team:
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Executive Director, providing support and guidance on organizational matters.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the board and the executive team.
  • Assist in the selection, evaluation, and support of the Executive Director.
  1. Advocacy and Outreach:
  • Promote the organization’s mission and vision within the film industry and to the public.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, industry leaders, and community partners.
Ideal Profile:
  • Leadership Experience: A respected leader with extensive experience in nonprofit governance, particularly in the film or arts sectors.
  • Passion for Filmmaking and Diversity: Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the film industry.
  • Strategic Thinker: Proven ability to guide organizations in developing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial management and fundraising principles.
  • Networking Skills: Excellent networking and relationship-building skills, with a broad network of contacts in the film industry and philanthropic community.
  • Commitment: Willingness to commit significant time and resources to the organization, including an annual donation of $150,000+
Time Commitment:
  • Attend quarterly board meetings and additional committee meetings as needed.
  • Participate in major organizational events and fundraising activities.
  • Regularly communicate with the Executive Director and other board members.
Compensation:
  • This is a volunteer position; however, the Chairman is expected to contribute $150,000 annually in donations to support the organization’s mission and initiatives.
