About The Land Conservancy of McHenry County

Location:

PO BOX 352, WOODSTOCK, IL 60098, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to preserve scenic, natural and agricultural resources in McHenry County by working with private landowners, communities and developers.

Description

Since 1991, The Land Conservancy has helped protect over 2,500 acres of McHenry County's prairies, wetlands and woodlands by working with private landowners, communities and other partners. We do this by accepting donated conservation easements and direct acquisition of property (through purchase or donation).

TLC has programs to help preserve land, agricultural land, conserve oak trees and actively restore the properties we own.

We also hold a number of events throughout the year that are opportunities for people to learn about the work TLC does, get involved with TLC, develop new skills and support land preservation in McHenry County.

Events include the Art of the Land fundraiser, Annual Celebration Brunch, our annual rain barrel and composter sale, and our spring and fall native plant sales.

TLC also hosts several restoration workdays throughout the month. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, and no experience is needed to participate. We will train people on basic land restoration techniques that include removal of invasive brush, garlic mustard control and native seed collection.
