Program Overview
The Independent Living Skills (ILS) program helps people with disabilities and older adults learn how to care for themselves and become more independent. ILS Instructors work with consumers one-on-one and in group settings to assist them in achieving their goals. Topics may include peer support, self-advocacy, time and task management, daily living skills, social skills, money management, and computer skills.
Responsibilities
- Send reminders for group events to registered attendees.
- Log all communications with consumers and provide notes to staff members.
- Brainstorm topics and activity ideas for workshops and support groups.
- Assist during in-person or virtual group activities with tasks like taking attendance, making notes, or monitoring the chat.
- Design flyers to promote group events.
- Research upcoming community events and share with the ILS team.
Desired Qualities
- Comfortable using basic office equipment and Microsoft Windows
- Comfortable with Zoom
- Flyer design experience
- Friendly attitude and a reliable team member
Requirements
- Complete the interview, pass a background check, and attend orientation
- Wear a face mask in the office
- Log volunteer hours after every shift
- Keep the Volunteer Coordinator informed about any changes or concerns
- Minimum 4 hours of service per month
- Maintain the confidentiality of Dayle McIntosh Center information
Schedule
- Flexible scheduling: Shifts available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm
