At Central, we are seeking dedicated Gardening Volunteers to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of our food distribution plots. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy working outdorrs, have a passion for gardening, and want to contribute to a community-focused initiative. Volunteers will be involved in cleaning, watering, pruning, and other general gardening tasks with little to moderate supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Clean and maintain garden areas, ensuring they are free of debris and litter.
- Cater to plants regularly according to seasonal needs and specific plant requirements.
- Prune plats to promote healthy growth and imporve the garden's aesthetics.
- Assit with planting new crops and maintaining existing ones.
- Monitor plant health and report any issues such as pests or diseases to the garden coordinator.
- help with composting and soil preparation as needed.
- Follow sustainable gardening practices to ensure the long-term health of the garden.
Requirements:
- Interest in gardening and sustainable agriculture.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical ability to perform gardeing tasks (bending, lifting, kneeling,etc.)
- Commitment to a regular volunteerign schedule, with a minimum preferred commitment of 4 hours per week.
- Basic knowledge of gardening tools and techniques is a plus, but not required.

Description
CENTRAL: A small, energetic community working in English + bilingually to empower our neighbors in Van Nuys through love and grace to be who God has made them to be.
Our vision: We want to be people who accept and live in God's grace, who follow Jesus Christ, and who serve others.
January 1929 Central was a mission outreach & became a vital part of serving a wide range of needs through the depression and post-war Van Nuys. It flourished in the 50's-70's but lost its connection with mission, so dwindled.
NOW, for 15 years, hosted homeless services agencies & opened worship to marginalized folk, experiencing loneliness, disconnectedness, & personal trauma.
TODAY: Core of folks serve both persons experiencing poverty & hunger among the housed neighbors + persons experiencing homelessness.

* Kids Community and Support
* Summer kids programs (camp onsite July 2020; Camp opportunities @ mountains late-July 2020)
