About Kerala Volunteer

Location:

Ullannur Village, Via Kulanada, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala 19248, IN

Mission Statement

The mission of Kerala Volunteer is to bridge the gap in English language education at Rural Reconstruction Upper Primary (RRUP) School, catering to low to middle-income families in Ullannur, Kerala. With RRUP offering free education but lacking English medium instruction, there is a crucial need for volunteer English teachers to equip students with essential skills for opportunities beyond their village. Since 2014, Kerala Volunteer has facilitated a unique partnership between volunteers and RRUP, providing accommodation and eliminating financial barriers to volunteering. By prioritizing impact and simplifying the volunteering process, Kerala Volunteer empowers volunteers to support RRUP's students in pursuing their dreams of a brighter future, regardless of their background. Join us in shaping the next generation's success and making a meaningful difference in the lives of RRUP's students.

Description

At Rural Reconstruction Upper Primary (RRUP) School, our mission is rooted in a legacy of rural development and educational empowerment. Established in 1936 by the visionary Sri. M.K.Varghese, RRUP began as a vocational school in Ullannur, Kerala, providing essential skills training to uplift the community. Today, we continue this tradition by offering free education to 130-150 students from low to middle-income families.

Our commitment to accessible education drives us to maintain a traditional model of instruction, with Malayalam as the primary language. However, recognizing the importance of English proficiency in a globalized world, we seek to bridge this gap through volunteer English teachers. Our students, though varying in English skills, are characterized by their respect, motivation, and eagerness to learn.

In 2014, Kerala Volunteer emerged as a beacon of support, facilitating a unique partnership between RRUP and volunteers worldwide. By providing accommodation adjacent to the school, we remove the financial barriers typically associated with volunteering, enabling individuals from diverse backgrounds to contribute meaningfully to our students' aspirations.

At RRUP, we prioritize impact over logistical challenges, ensuring that volunteers can dedicate their time and energy to nurturing the dreams of our students. Together, we aim to shape a future where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to realize their potential and contribute positively to society.
