High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) is a nonprofit (501c3) focused on environmental education and stewardship. HPEC was founded in 2001. It was the inspiration of two developers McStain Neighborhoods and McWhinney. The founders donated 76 acres of land to HPEC and created funding mechanisms based on fees for development, and residential home sales to help offset the cost of managing the conservation land. These have contributed to the growth of a 2.5-million-dollar endowment fund. Our Mission: The High Plains Environmental Center works to educate communities to become replicable "living laboratories" which demonstrate restorative examples of land-stewardship, native plants, and wildlife habitat.
