Apex for Youth’s Mission

Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families to unlock their potential and a world of possibility.


We work with more than 700 volunteers to help serve 2,500 Asian American and immigrant youth year round. Personal relationships are at the core of our work--we rely on trusted adult role models like you to support our youth as they explore their interests and identities through activities nurturing their education, health & well-being, and community engagement.


Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for volunteers to support our programs in the Summer and Fall, below is a summary of each program. Most programs require either a 1-2 year or a full summer commitment. Volunteers must maintain a 75% attendance rate.


Athletics

Share your love of basketball, yoga, volleyball, or running with our youth (grades 3-8). Volunteers help students learn the fundamentals of each activity through fun drills, games, and practices.

Locations: Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens


Elementary Explorers

Work with a small group of youth (grade 3-5) to help them discover new interests, build vital relationships, and develop life skills such as teamwork and problem solving through hands-on activities, games, and field trips.

Locations: Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens


Read with Apex

Join one of our read aloud programs and explore themes like community, family, and identity & culture through books and fun activities with K-2 graders.

Locations: Zoom or Manhattan


College and Career Success

Support high school students as they explore their future pathways!

Location: Manhattan


High School and Middle School Mentoring

Build a strong, trusting relationship with a middle school or high school-aged mentee through one-on-one sessions and group workshops.

Locations: Manhattan, Brooklyn


National Virtual Mentoring

Help build an online community of high school youth and volunteers through virtual one-on-one’s and monthly group workshops.

Location: Zoom


Who can Apply?
  • In Elementary Explorers, and Read with Apex programs, volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and commit to one school year of volunteer work.
  • In Athletics, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and commit to one school year of volunteer work.
  • In Mentoring and College and Career Success programs, volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, they must commit to 1-2 Saturdays (a couple of hours) per month for at least 2 years.
  • All volunteers under the age of 18 must have signed approval from their parent or guardian.


All volunteers who are interested should have:

  • An open mind, patience, positivity, and be resourceful when navigating with youth
  • A youth-centered mindset
  • An empathy for youth needs
  • A strong stance on diversity and inclusion
  • A growth mindset.
