About Us:

Founded in 2022, NorthWest Wag Rescue is a registered Small Business run by and for its members. Based in Gig Harbor, we represent the rights of animals everywhere. Our team and volunteers work tirelessly to save lives, promote animal welfare and connect humans to their forever furry companion. We advocate for the most vulnerable animal populations. We believe that each and every life is precious, deserving to be treated humanely with a chance to live happily and cruelty-free. We placed 202 dogs and cats in their forever homes in 2023.

Position Overview:

We are seeking compassionate and responsible individuals to serve as Transportation Volunteers for our animal rescue organization. Your commitment and dedication will directly contribute to the well-being and safety of the animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

Meet adopters/fosters at SeaTac airport for the arrival of their animal(s). Give out goodie bags to adopters/fosters. Coordinate with the human flier to receive medical paperwork and hand out to appropriate adopter/foster and obtain any necessary documents for the rescue. Upon receiving the dogs from customs, immediately place the dog tag on the animal before passing over to adopter/foster. Coordinate drop off of any documents or materials to the rescue President or other board member after pick up is complete.
  1. Animal Handling: Handle animals with care and compassion during transport, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey. Follow established protocols for securing animals in carriers or crates and providing appropriate bedding, food, and water during transit.
  2. Adherence to Schedule: Arrive punctually for scheduled transport assignments and adhere to predetermined pickup and drop-off times. Communicate promptly with rescue coordinators or transport organizers to confirm availability and coordinate logistics.
  3. Communication: Maintain open and clear communication with transportation coordinators and/or board members, foster caregivers, and other volunteers regarding transport arrangements, updates, and any unexpected delays or issues that may arise during transit.
  4. Documentation: Complete transport paperwork accurately and thoroughly, including animal transfer forms, medical records, and any other relevant documentation required for each transport assignment.
  5. Adherence to Policies: Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures regarding animal transport, safety protocols, and code of conduct. Uphold ethical standards and demonstrate respect and compassion toward all animals and individuals involved in the rescue process.

Mission Statement

NorthWest Wag Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit pet rescue organization based in Gig Harbor dedicated to representing the rights of animals everywhere. We work tirelessly to get animals out of shelters and dangerous situations and find them loving forever homes in the Pacific NorthWest.

Description

In order to help as many pets as possible, we partner with Roswell Shelter in New Mexico, Caddo Parish in Louisiana, Misiones Caninas and Flying Dog Rescue Ranch in Guadalajara, Mexico. Two of these shelters, Roswell, and Caddo, are "kill shelters" which eventually carry out euthanasia on those animals they cannot find homes for. Unfortunately, this happens too often, and in our mission of saving and rehoming pets, time is often of the essence. Our Mexico partners rescue dogs from the streets and unsafe situations, nurse them back to health, complete their protocol and place them into safe living situations until they have their chance to come to WA. We are able to help local animals in need as well, as long as space permits. Currently, we do not have a facility of our own, so we rely on the help of volunteers and foster families in the Pacific Northwest area to reduce the euthanasia and abuse of homeless dogs and cats through rescue and quality adoptions.
