United Way Suncoast has been serving our community for 100 years by addressing access to quality education, removing barriers to financial stability, and providing support in a crisis.

An emergency can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. Less than half of all Americans can’t afford a $1,000 emergency if it were to happen to them tomorrow. While not all disasters are directly financial, many disasters have a rather large financial implication, thus making them disastrous to the families who can’t afford them.

During the month of June and throughout the year, we encourage you to be United for Community through volunteerism, donations, or advocacy.

Community volunteers are invited to create the below kits that would be distributed in the Suncoast region:

Once assembled, contact the Philanthropic Engagement Team at bmays@uwsuncoast.org to let us know the quantity and to coordinate an in-person drop off at one of our locations (appointment required).

Please note: This is a virtual volunteering opportunity with the expectation that completed kits will be dropped off by the volunteer to one of our resource centers (via appointment) in Tampa, St. Petersburg, or Bradenton, Florida. If you live outside of the Suncoast Community and would like to still participate, shipping is an option (at the volunteer's expense).

Thank you for supporting the Suncoast Community.
Happy volunteering!

About United Way Suncoast

Location:

4925 Independence Parkway, Suite 120, Tampa, FL 33634, US

Mission Statement

To provide leadership that improves lives and creates lasting community change by mobilizing the caring people of our communities to give, advocate, and volunteer. Serves DeSoto, Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties.

Description

United Way Suncoast Strategic Plan is to " Break the cycle of generational poverty through educational programs that give children the skills to succeed and help adults achieve long-term financial stability so they can support themselves and their families."

Working together with volunteers, agency partners, community leaders and key stakeholders, the plan focuses on three priority impact areas:
  • Early Literacy - If a child isn’t reading at grade level by 4th grade, s/he is four times more likely to drop out of school.
  • Youth Success - A child who doesn’t graduate from high school earns 75% less than peers who do.
  • Financial Stability - Building financial knowledge and employability skills help create more stable and secure households and communities.

In addition, we will continue funding aligned Support Services (health, food, shelter, etc) to help hard working individuals and families move past immediate crisis that may prevent them from participating in United Way programs that address their long-term needs.
