ORGANIZATION: Adopt A Cat

  • 5 people are interested

One of the most important aspects of the shelter is building up and maintaining the health of our cats, and that is accomplished in part by visits to the vet.

Unfortunately, our shelter vehicle has been of service to us for many, many years now and the toll of that is starting to show itself.

Between the state of our car, the general (and sometimes unexpectedly intense) busyness that comes from the average day, and understaffing, we are relying largely on volunteers to help us get the cats to and from their vet appointments in a timely manner.

Outside of assisting in our cats overcoming existing and/or sudden health issues, you will also be helping them get ready to go to their new forever homes, as every cat that we adopt out is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, flea treated, dewormed, and receives any other essential medical care that is necessary to get them on the path to recovery.

The ideal volunteer for this position:

  • Has a valid drivers license and reliable transportation with room for up to three medium/large sized carriers
  • Can commit to the time necessary to transport the cats to the vet, wait for their appointment to be completed if it is not an overnight stay, and bring them back to the shelter (approximately 1.5-2 hours total)
  • Is comfortable with handling cats

About Adopt A Cat

Location:

17319 BAMWOOD DR, HOUSTON, TX 77090, US

Mission Statement

Adopt A Cat's mission is to provide shelter and sanctuary to homeless cats and kittens in the greater Houston area until forever homes are found. We provide education about the importance of spay/neuter and appropriate cat care. All cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, dewormed, and flea treated before they are adopted, as well as receiving necessary medical care to improve and maintain their quality of life so they can find comfort and happiness in our home until they are placed in a new one.

Description

Adopt A Cat has been in existence for 30 years to provide shelter and sanctuary to homeless cats and kittens in the greater Houston area. We house most of our residents in a free-roaming setting within the shelter, not cages. Cats can be adopted on site and we also take our cats to the adoption centers in local pet stores. We have a no-kill policy, so we have a mix of old-timers and new residents who can all stay with us as long as it takes to find the perfect home for them, or if we are their forever home, then they can rest easy with us until they cross the rainbow bridge.
