Are you passionate about food justice? Community Food Education (CFE) believes that communities are healthier when all people have access to affordable and culturally appropriate food.

CFE equips people with the knowledge, confidence, resources, and skills to navigate and influence the food system. We work to counter the barriers of racism and oppression that interfere with people’s right to food. We do this by building relationships, fostering positive experiences, and creating opportunities for learning and developing a sense of ownership of the food system. Programming is led by, informed by, and held accountable to the community members who are our participants.

Become a Food FARMacia Distribution Volunteer!

Food FARMacia is a farmers-market-style food distribution program offered in partnership between Solid Ground and Sea Mar Community Health Centers to increase access to fresh produce and nutrition education for Sea Mar patients. Volunteers will be trained on their first shift. Duties include:

  • Unloading food deliveries
  • Distributing food
  • Keeping stations well stocked
  • Welcoming patrons
  • Providing information and direction as needed
  • Breaking down boxes
  • Supporting Sea Mar and Solid Ground staff to provide food samples and nutrition education

Spanish-speaking skills are strongly preferred!

About Solid Ground

Location:

1501 N 45TH ST, SEATTLE, WA 98103, US

Mission Statement

Our mission... Solid Ground works to end poverty and undo racism and other oppressions that are root causes of poverty. Our vision... Solid Ground believes our community can move beyond poverty and oppression to a place where all people have access to quality housing, nutritious food, equal justice and opportunities to thrive. Our values... Solid Ground is committed to working with compassion, integrity, accountability, creativity and an anti-oppression approach to end homelessness, hunger, inequality and other barriers to social justice. We value collaboration and leadership from the communities we serve.

Description

Our history...

Solid Ground was founded in 1974 by community leaders and concerned citizens of one of Seattle's then most economically devastated neighborhoods, Fremont. Originally called the Fremont Public Association, our services - emergency food bank, clothing bank, and employment program - reflected the desperate needs and determined response of a mobilized and committed neighborhood.

Solid Ground today...

As the scope and severity of homelessness and poverty have increased over the years, so too have our reach to our greater community and our range of services. Now based in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood, our 30 programs and services help more than 60,000 households each year overcome poverty and build better futures throughout King County and beyond.
