People helping people. If you have a passion for caring for others and you’re looking for a way to make a difference in people’s lives, consider becoming a hospice volunteer. Hospice gives patients who are facing a life-limiting illness the freedom to live ALL the days of their lives by offering comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

As a hospice volunteer, and as an important part of our hospice care team, you can help improve the quality of life for our patients, as well as their families and caregivers.

HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A VARIETY OF WAYS, INCLUDING:

ACTIVITIES WITH PATIENTS:

  • Offering companionship
  • Reading and writing letters and email messages
  • Playing chess, cards or board games
  • Knitting, scrapbooking and other craft
    projects
  • Providing support at time of death
  • Veteran to veteran visits
  • Providing pet therapy

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT:

  • Providing respite for caregivers
  • Making spiritual prayer calls
  • Attending funerals
  • Participating in memorial services
    Offering companionship to loved ones
  • Making weekly "tuck-in" calls
  • Making bereavement phone calls or visits

HOUSEHOLD ACTIVITIES:

  • Arranging donated flowers
  • Light gardening
  • Delivering blankets
  • Running errands
  • Walking pets

PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEERS:

  • Reiki/massage/other alternative therapies
  • Music and art therapy
  • Hairdresser/barber

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:

  • Answering phones
  • Providing help with mailings
  • Attending local health fairs & events
  • Creating Chart-a-Life posters
