Our volunteers recover healthy meals from commercial donor cafeterias and deliver to nearby non-profit organizations. Every meal saved stays our of the landfill, helping the environment, whiole alslo nourishing our community in need.
This volunteer role would involve:
- picking up pre-packaged fresh food from our donor cafeteria in Piscataway, and
- delivering this food to our nearby non-profit community partner.
The delivery route is approximately a 25 minute drive. Pick up would be early afternoon on a Friday. Volunteers would need to use their own car to deliver the food. We welcome regular participation but will work with your schedule. We anticipate approximately 15-20 prepackaged food items to be donated each Friday which would fit into any average sized car trunk. Insulated storage bags would be supplied.

Description
Share My Meals is a Princeton, NJ-based nonprofit organization that fights both food insecurity and the environmental impact of food waste by recovering and delivering healthy meals to the local community. Working with its local partners, Share My Meals addresses both of these critical issues at once with a unique, tech-enabled model that recovers healthful, prepared meals, and delivers them directly to the homes of families in need. We collect balanced meals made from surplus prepared foods from food service providers and distributes them directly to the homes of families and organizations in need, leveraging volunteers and technical solutions to create a seamless, sustainable model.

- Volunteer task will take no more than 70 minutes including delivery time. We welcome regular participation but will work with your schedule.
- Volunteers will need access to a car, a valid driver's license and adequate auto insurance. They will also need a smartphone and to be comfortable loading, lifting and carrying large bags containing the prepackaged food.
