With 50-70 horses on-site at any given time, the ranch requires substantial funding for their care, totaling approximately $3,000 per horse annually. That's where the thrift store comes in - all proceeds directly benefit the rescued horses.

We're seeking volunteers to assist with various tasks including unloading donations, restocking items, operating the register, arranging displays, and managing inventory. The store operates on Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm, and Thursdays to Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

Ideal volunteers are dependable, enjoy retail work and interacting with the public, possess strong organizational skills, and are open to learning new skills such as operating the register. If you have a passion for thrifting, you'll find plenty of excitement here, sorting through people's treasures on a daily basis.

This role is fast-paced and requires being on your feet, but it's incredibly rewarding knowing that your efforts directly contribute to the welfare of rescued horses. If you're ready to make a difference and provide top-notch customer service to our loyal clientele, we'd love to hear from you! Please reach out if this opportunity resonates with you.

Mission Statement

New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) horse rescue that rehabilitates and finds homes for abandoned, abused, and neglected horses. Since 2002, we’ve remained true to our mission of providing all rescued equines with new beginnings and productive lives with loving, adoptive families.

Description

WNCR runs a ranch in Stanley, NM, as well as a thrift store in Edgewood, NM that helps support our activities. Our herd number can vary, but we generally care for 50 to 60 horses on the ranch, and several more in foster care. The majority of horses that come to us have been seized by the Livestock Board due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. We also occasionally take horses surrendered by individuals who can no longer care for their horse(s).

The ranch is governed by a board of directors who oversees day-to-day operations with the assistance of on-site caretakers and the help of more than 100 volunteers! Ranch team members volunteer their experience, skills, talents and time to care for horses, maintain the facilities and fund the ranch. Volunteers are also an essential part of our thrift store team.

We utilize University of California, Davis Best Practices for Horse Rescues and natural horsemanship to guide our work. We are licensed, regulated and inspected annually by the New Mexico Livestock Board and accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS).
