Project Overview

Help plant trees at Rusty Arejas Community Garden inside Martial Cottle Park and learn how to properly plant a tree to ensure the best chance for a healthy life!

This year, HandsOn Bay Area is partnering with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor to expand our climate action and environmental volunteer project offerings! About Our City Forest

Planting it forward. Our mission is to cultivate a green and healthy Silicon Valley by engaging community members in the appreciation, protection, growth and maintenance of our urban ecosystem, especially our urban forest.

Project Requirements & Important Notes

  • Please show up on time for our tree planting demonstration at the beginning of the event to learn how to plant a tree properly. Free street parking is available along Chynoweth Ave outside of Martial Cottle.

  • COVID- 19 Protocols: You should not report to your volunteer shift if you are feeling ill or are showing any symptoms of COVID-19. Disclaimer: At this volunteer event, you may be working with individuals who may be unvaccinated. Please use your discretion in taking the proper precautions.

  • All volunteers 18 years old and older must submit a Volunteer Waiver and Release Form. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian complete the Volunteer Waiver and Release Form. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to volunteer. Forms can be submitted electronically to volunteer@ourcityforest.org, or brought with you to your volunteer shift. Printed copies will also be available at the event, if needed.

  • Closed-toed shoes (No crocs, sandals, flats, etc. White shoes NOT recommended)

  • Proper work clothing that can get dirty (long pants are recommended, but make sure your attire is weather appropriate)

  • Appropriate sun or rain protection (Sunscreen, Hat, Rain jacket, etc.)

  • Water! Please bring plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated throughout your volunteer shift)

  • Recommended: Gardening-type gloves
