Come help FareStart harvest produce at Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center!
FareStart's Food Security Team works with local partners to support our food rescue and access initiatives. From our local growers, we glean any goods that are seconds, in excess, or that they would like to donate. This produce will be used at our Mobile Community Markets to provide local, nutritious food to communities experiencing food insecurity and will be incorporated into our Community and School Meals.
Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center’s mission is to inspire people to eat healthy, sustainably grown food and to steward our natural resources for future generations. They practice and research the art of ecological restoration, educate and empower youth to be good stewards of the Earth, and operate a 30 acre farm using sustainable farming practices.
For those new to gleaning, gleaning is:
- The act of harvesting or collecting unused or surplus produce from farms and distributing it to those experiencing food insecurity
- Traditionally defined as gathering anything left over after a harvest
This is a Family Friendly volunteer opportunity, open to ages 5-15yrs with a guardian, 16-17yrs with signed parental permission.
