Help strengthen families and prevent child abuse. Become a Volunteer Parent Support Counselor!

Family Path’s Parenting Stress Helpline provides phone counseling, case management, and resources and referrals to all parents, including foster/adoptive parents, relative caregivers, and other service providers in Alameda County. Our mission is to strengthen family relationships with respect, integrity, compassion and hope. Currently, we are recruiting volunteers for our Parenting Stress Helpline.

Helpline Volunteers come from many diverse backgrounds and offer unique peer support to callers. Some are considering careers in Mental Health, others are parents themselves and want to give back to their community. Whatever their reason, volunteers gain new sills, support their community, and meet like-minded people along the way.

This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity for:
* Students (in the counseling, social work and other human service fields) who want to gain
valuable work experience
* Parents/caregivers who want to support other parents/caregivers
* Retirees who want to share their life experience & skills
* Others who want to make a difference in the lives of parents and families

No prior experience is necessary. We ask that volunteers are empathetic, have proficient computer skills, and can attend all 4-days of our Pre-Service Training program. This year's 4-day Pre-Service training will be held on September 13, 14, 27, & 29. Each day volunteers learn useful information about mental health/parenting and develop the skills needed to support our callers. Volunteers must attend all 4 days of this training before they can join the Parenting Stress Helpline.

Required Training Dates:

Friday 9/13 10AM-5PM (In-Person, Oakland office)
Saturday 9/14 10AM-5PM (Virtual)
Friday 9/27 10AM-5PM (In-Person, Oakland office)
Sunday 9/29 10AM-5PM (In-Person, Oakland office)

Due to the extensiveness of our training, we ask that volunteers commit to one 2-4 hour shift per week for a year. If you are interested in joining Family Paths please apply here: https://familypaths.org/how-to-help/helpine-volunteer/

We will be hosting a Volunteer Info Session to answer any further questions that you have about volunteering. You will be emailed information for this event when an application is completed. Feel free to reach out to Vanessa at vhernandez@familypaths.org for more information.
