If you can read, write, speak English, and have the ability to be flexible and patient with an adult learner, YOU can become a trained tutor. Prior teaching experience or knowledge of another language is NOT required. Out training prepares volunteers to help foreign-born adults learn English as a Second language (ESL) and help English-speaking adults improve their reading skills (Basit Adult Literacy).
Literacy Volunteers of South Sarsota County is a non-profit organization that helps adults in the North Port and Venice Florida areas learn and improve their English Literacy skills. Due to the war in Ukraine and changes in the immigration policies, we are experiencing a much greater need for our services. Please consider volunteering to make a difference in the life of someone.
