Position Overview


Drop-in volunteering is an easy, hassle-free way to volunteer at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. With no previous experience needed, drop-ins are perfect for those with just a few hours of free time or those visiting for the weekend.


Volunteers can join park staff every Wednesday or every third Saturday and Sunday at Oakland Plantation (4386 Highway 494, Bermuda LA, 71456) from 9am to 12pm for drop-in volunteering. Projects vary by date and season, but can include a wide variety of manual labor projects after completing appropriate training.

Projects can include things such as: dusting, limewashing buildings, garden clean ups, exhibit cleaning, etc.

*This position is also used for staffing weekend and special events.*


Minimum Commitment


A few hours of free time, 9am to 12pm. Every Wednesday and every third Saturday and Sunday of the month.


Goal / Outcome of Job:


To assist park staff on various projects around the park. Opportunity to work alongside park staff and

help care for our local National Park.



Knowledge/ Skills Desired


• The ability to work with others.

• Desire and ability to work outdoors.

• Ability to work in inclement weather.

• Ability to work in uneven terrain and footing.

• Ability to handle some strenuous physical activity.


Difficulty Level

Average to strenuous impact.


Working Conditions:

Volunteer work may involve strenuous manual labor, such as carrying supplies and equipment through fields, heat, over uneven terrain, wet soils, and exposure to biting insects.


Training / Preparation Required:

Training will be provided the day of by park staff.
