Project ElderCool

Project ElderCool provides free air conditioners to individuals throughout the Kansas City metro area who are elderly or have a respiratory disability. We will deliver and install air conditioners in a timely manner to help our neighbors stay cool. Help save lives this summer! Perfect opportunity for handypersons looking to help their neighbors stay in their homes!

Volunteer Purpose

The ElderCool Installer will work with an intern to drive to client homes and install air conditioning units. These volunteers may help troubleshoot installation issues if needed. A full client screening will be gathered before volunteers are sent to client homes.

Tasks

• Drive installers to installation sites; this will be at clients homes
• Help install window or portable air conditioning units
• Interface with staff and guests/clients in a manner consistent with the agency’s mission
• Provide excellent customer service to all clients

Competencies

• Empathetically listen, while maintaining boundaries consistent with agency guidelines
• Usage of basic tools
• Ability to use a GPS to navigate to installation sites
• Adaptable and flexible (schedule may vary depending on scheduled installations)
• Easily approachable
• Ability to be trained in a fast-paced atmosphere and function autonomously once trained
