AMC Connecticut Appalachian Trail Committee's National Trails Day event is Saturday, June 1! This is a great opportunity to explore volunteering for the Appalachian Trail and to meet people in the club as you learn new skills!
The work trip will focus on trail building near Sherman, CT. Work includes building rock stairs on the A.T. just north of CT Route 55.

No experience is necessary, only a desire to give back and improve the hiking experience for future visitors by creating a rock step or two. Steps are important for the Appalachian Trail because they help slow the rate of water down the Trail. This reduces erosion and helps protect area waterways, makes the trail able to last a longer time, and makes walking a bit easier.

Bring work gloves, wear sturdy boots and long pants. Bring lunch as well as plenty of water and snacks for the day, as well as sunscreen, bug spray, a rain jacket and personal work gloves. All other tools and training will be provided by the AMC-CT A.T. Trails Committee.

Advanced registration necessary. Registration and more information here: https://volunteer.appalachiantrail.org/s/atc-project-details?c__recId=a0qUI000000xUuv

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Description

Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).

Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.

There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
