We are looking for our unicorn, that unique person who is amazing, energetic and passionate about working with teen youth as a mentor and role model. You work with a local team of youth, and be an encouraging and positive role model that helps them to engage in volunteerism with the Red Cross and their community.

The perfect volunteer would Ensure the successful implementation of the Youth Services Program. Including, but not limited to:

  • Building leadership capacity of the involved youth
  • Successful completion of monthly Youth Services Meetings (following a pre-set curriculum)
  • Monthly Veterans Home visits
  • Weekly conference calls with youth leadership
  • Monthly Leadership Committee meetings (held directly before general Youth Services Meetings)
  • Collecting appropriate statistics to reflect program activity
  • Help facilitate the placement of youth into volunteer positions within each line of service
  • Available to your youth via phone, text, and e-mail, which allows for coaching and bonding with youth
Qualifications we are looking for include:

  • Understanding the value of youth and young adult volunteers and providing leadership and support to ensure youth and young adult volunteers are productive and have a mutually rewarding experience.
  • Proven leadership in nonprofit or for-profit organizations
  • Cultural sensitivity to diverse audiences
  • Knowledge and understanding of Red Cross services and operations and opportunities for volunteer service, specifically youth and young adult volunteer opportunities.
  • Enthusiastic about Red Cross mission and programs
  • Work well individually and with others
  • Relevant, complementary management and/or technical skills/operational experience
  • Strategic thinking including ability to understand and communicate the organization’s vision and mission, and process-oriented with regards to decision making and implementation planning
  • Team building, talent management, and succession planning skills to grow the organization’s capabilities
  • Relationship building skills collaborating with the Youth Engagement Partner, Volunteer Services Director, and other volunteer partners as needed.
