The Seal Beach Library is looking for teens (ages 12-18) who can work independently to help us shelve books, advise us on what teens want from their library, and other library duties (such as helping set-up for events and help younger kids with crafts).

Program Help & Prep

  • Help children complete an activity and help us prepare during our bigger events/programs as needed

Tidy Up Team

  • Accurately shelve our collection of books, magazines, DVDs, board games, and audiobooks.
  • Organize areas of the library that get messy - boardgames, magazines, toy section. Clean toys and art supplies when necessary.

Program Planners (Teen Advisory Board aka TAB)

  • Do you have skills or interests that you’d like to share with children or your peers? Pitch your idea!
  • Examples: manga/graphic novel clubs, fandom celebrations, book club, crafts, STEM activities, Dungeons & Dragons, (your idea here). Program planners are awarded EXTRA service hours, as this is a leadership role!

We are also currently recruiting teens (ages 12-18) for our 2024 Summer Reading Program. Our Summer Reading Program runs from Monday, June 17th through Sunday, August 4th. Volunteers can help us during our large programs like help set-up the room for performers, help younger kids with crafts, and help plan and participate in teen-focused events. We will be having these programs on Wednesdays and Thursdays from around 3:00-5:00 PM. Volunteers do not have to help at every event--there will be a sign-up sheet for the dates you'd like!

Please note that a parent/guardian signature is required for those under 18. High schoolers 18 and over must pass a background check before volunteering.

Description

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.

OC Public Libraries is a network of community libraries in your neighborhood or as near as your computer. We have 33 branches as well as an outlet in the Orangewood Children’s Home which provide a variety of services to residents throughout the County. Some of the branches are operated within the jurisdiction of the County’s 33 cities and within the County’s unincorporated area.

Once you have an OC Public Libraries card, you are entitled to check out materials from any of our 33 branches as well as from other libraries with reciprocal lending privileges. OC Public Libraries welcomes your visits and hopes you take time to get acquainted with our staff, services, materials, and programs.
