Mission Statement
The Emergency Food Network reduces food insecurity in the city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County by providing nutritionally balanced multi-day supplies of groceries, upon request, to individuals and families.
Description
The Emergency Food Network is a volunteer-led, local nonprofit that has been serving our community since 1973. We provide a multi-day supply of healthy foods, including meat, eggs, milk, cheese, bread, margarine, fresh produce, and non-perishable staples. We ask no financial questions, which enables us to serve those who are experiencing a sudden emergency or whose income just isn’t quite enough to cover all their expenses. We distribute food directly, as well as through partnerships with other local nonprofit organizations.
We have a working board of over 20 members, including an executive committee and specific job areas such as the purchase of food, volunteer coordinators, outreach, dietary specifications and record-keeping. We have over 100 volunteers, and just one employee, a part-time Office Manager.
