Volunteer teachers are the primary educators in the classroom. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in teaching. There is a lot of support from the administration, as many of our teachers are first year teachers who have minimal prior classroom experience. Housing and meals during the school days are provided, and St. Francis partners with AmeriCorps as an Education Award Partner, and thus a year of service is eligible to receive an education award for student loans or future education. Federal loans can be put on hold for volunteers serving with AmeriCorps.

Mission Statement

The mission of St. Francis of Assisi School is to teach and live the gospel message of Jesus Christ through family involvement in worship, evangelization, education, and service.

Description

St. Francis is a K-8 school located about 3 miles from the Jicarilla Apache reservation, where the majority of our students come from. We are a mission school that is staffed by volunteers who are passionate about service and work to ensure a quality education for all of our students. Faculty members effectively plan for and guide instruction, direct and evaluate the teaching-learning process, so that students experience an appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to fulfill their potential for physical, emotional, intellectual, social, moral, and spiritual growth. The students develop competencies and skills to enable them to function in society, their chosen careers, and in the Church
