Brief Organizational Description:
We build just, inclusive, nonviolent communities through education and action.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
The Richmond Peace Festival is a day to focus and celebrate peace, love, and harmony in our community. This in-person event brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate unity and promote a peaceful world. It has historically included live music, food, crafts, and various local organizations that promote peace and well-being. This is an opportunity to join the team that is assembling to begin planning for the 2024 Richmond Peace Festival that will take place on 9/21/24.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

Here is a list of the various roles available and a short description of their responsibilities (which are subject to change as the planning process commences)

  • FINANCE / BUDGET: Collect and deposit vendor fees and contributions; work with RPEC treasurer to pay vendors, suppliers, entertainment, etc.

  • ADVERTISING, MARKETING, PUBLICITY: Create flyers for the event, for vendors, and post on social media; design and order signs if needed; coordinate Pinwheels for Peace displays (suggested for two weeks before the festival with signs promoting the event).

  • FOOD TRUCK COORDINATOR: Arrange for the Food Trucks and coordinate inspection by City/County inspector at the beginning of the event

  • MERCHANDISE: Prior to the event, order merchandise to be sold to support the event (buttons, magnets, t-shirts, etc.)

  • PERMITS & INSURANCE: Coordinate with City/County (as required) for the Venue and for the Food Vendor permitting

  • PROGRAM/STAGE MANAGER: Plan the program, invite MC, speakers & entertainment
  • VENDOR COORDINATOR: Invite and coordinate both for-profit vendors (e.g. clothing & T-shirts, jewelry, craft items etc.) and non-profit organizations (faith groups, refugee organizations, social services, hint: tell everyone attending to bring items for the food banks); determine how many tables and chairs will be required.
  • VENUE COORDINATOR: Research, recommend, and book the Venue for the festival. Also arrange for tables, chairs, tents, etc. Plan the layout for the festival (stage, vendors, food, parking). Coordinate delivery and pickup of rented items.

  • MEDIA: Take photos and/or videos throughout the planning process and on the day of the Peace Festival to be shared on social media

  • GENERAL: As needed, help with any team.

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
It is highly recommended that you sign up to join the team according to the skills you already possess. While guidance and team coordination will be provided, there will be little to no training for the different roles. However, if you are interested in lending a hand and are willing to follow instructions, the general volunteer role would be the best role for you.

Time Commitment:
The time commitment is to be determined after expressing interest and the team is assembled.

Other Information (if applicable):

  • Those needing volunteer hours to be verified need to bring their own volunteer log
  • Orientation will take place after the team is assembled
  • The dress is casual
  • Parking information will be shared after expressing interest
  • A link to the availability poll for the hybrid meeting that will take place during the week of 5/12 will be sent after you express interest.
  • To be clear, this is not a one-time volunteer event, but an expression of interest in making and a commitment to join the team that will be working to make the 2024 Richmond Peace Festival a success.
