Person specification:

You have/are

  • A bilingual English and Spanish speaker (English as a first language).
  • Able to demonstrate a proactive approach to developing the role.
  • A passion for communications and creativity, along with an eye for detail as well as the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • A passion for indigenous peoples and the Amazon.

Requirements:

  • Some relevant experience in a communication related role, ideally within a nonprofit, NGO or advocacy context.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or media)
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish, with English as your first language. You agree to commit at least 6 months, preferable is a commitment of 1 year.
  • Experience with writing, editing, marketing, promotion, filmmaking, and video.
  • Experience using Facebook, Instagram, and other social media for advocacy, marketing, and product placement.
  • Skilled with a range of digital communication tools and platforms, excellent computer literacy.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to have a flexible approach.
  • Commitment to the Chaikuni Institute’s vision, mission, and values.

We further offer

  • A free room and meals when staying at our Permaculture Center, where the volunteer is thought to be based. However, frequent trips to the city of Iquitos and perhaps elsewhere will be part of this experience.
  • If seen fit and desired, we offer the volunteer an opportunity to engage with medicinal plants, as part of our partnership with our sister organization, The Temple of The Way of Light, a pioneering shamanic healing center located near the city of Iquitos.
