A kitten fosterer, or foster parent, is a volunteer who provides temporary care for a cat in need at their home. This involves helping the cat be ready for adoption, and responsibilities typically include:

  • Feeding: Feeding the kitten regularly, mixing wet food with formula, and adding water if the kittens prefer a looser consistency. Must follow directions given by Health and Welfare Chairperson. Experience bottle feeding kittens is important.
  • Weighing: Weighing the kitten frequently
  • Stimulating: Stimulating the kitten to urinate and defecate
  • Litter box training: Training the kitten to use the litter box as they get older
  • Weaning: Weaning the kitten off bottles and onto wet food
  • Environment: Keeping the kitten's environment clean
  • Health: Monitoring the kitten's health
  • Medications: Giving simple medications if needed
  • Transportation: Transporting the kitten to and from medical appointments
  • Cuddling: Cuddling and playing with the kitten
  • Adoption photos: Taking photos of the kitten for adoption
  • Personality: Filling out a form to describe the kitten's personality
  • Shelter: Transporting the kitten to the appropriate shelter for adoption

Parma Animal Shelter Inc is an all-volunteer not-for-profit organized for the purpose of preventing abuse, cruelty and neglect of companion animals., educating the public about the importance of spay/neuter, increasing appreciation and understanding of companion animals, reuniting lost pets with their owners, and providing a healthy environment, medical care and ultimately permanent placement in loving homes for lost, abandoned and neglected pets within the City of Parma, Ohio.

Description

The Parma Animal Shelter is run by volunteers for the stray and abandoned animals of the City of Parma. Volunteers dedicate their time to tasks such as walking the dogs, cleaning the shelter, cleaning cages for the dogs and cats, feeding the animals, and giving them love. We also have volunteers that foster some of our animals in their home. We cannot accommodate short-term or community service. Applications must be submitted from our website www.parmashelter.org
