Host a LINK Unlimited Scholar: Career Shadow
ORGANIZATION: LINK UNLIMITED SCHOLARS
Please visit the new page to apply.
We are seeking volunteers and organizations to host LINK Scholars as a "Shadow" for up to 8 hours during the weeks of July 8-11 or July 15-18. Through this experience, we hope our Scholars can gain a true glimpse into the "day in the life" of a professional in their fields of interest through observations of conversations, hands-on experience, and/or staff panels. We realize some professions require certain levels of confidentiality and invite hosts to select dates they perceive will allow Scholars to gain as much insight as possible. Scholars may be hosted individually or in groups.

Mission Statement
The mission of LINK Unlimited Scholars is to connect high potential Black high school students with mentors, resources and foundational skills required for success as they advance into, through and beyond college. Since 1966, we have successfully supported over 2,500 low- to moderate-income students. LINK Scholars are actively equipped with the knowledge, skills, resources and social equity that furthers college completion and career placement in order to increase the economic mobility and stability of Black students in Chicago and create a diverse leadership pipeline for our city.
Description
Our Scholars complete a four-year fellowship that includes academic enrichment, leadership development, career exposure, and college access to move them to, through, and beyond college. LINK offers the necessary backing to help close the opportunity gap and further ensure economic stability for our Scholars.
In addition to the four programmatic elements, our Scholars’ growth and future success is supported by the unique relationship between LINK Mentors and Scholars. We match civic-minded professionals across a wide range of industries-from education and business to finance and medicine-who all share one goal: to transform the lives of high-potential Black students in Chicago. Our Mentors commit to guiding a Scholar for his or her entire fellowship. We provide training and resources to equip and support our Mentors in this vital piece of our four-year high school fellowship model.
We are committed to the growth and development of our Mentors as they support our Scholars, and have ongoing workshops and networking opportunities designed to build their confidence and enhance their cultural competence. Our goals are that mentors are empowered to become advocates, allies and disruptors as they engage in this work, and are able to influence their wider ecosystem as we build a more equitable society.
