General Description

Support Dakota County Library’s annual summer reading and learning program by participating in the Volunteen program. Teens ages 13 - 18 are invited to volunteer with the library to assist with fun library programs and events, encourage Summer Discovery kids and help the library be a dynamic and welcoming space. Volunteens may also assist with other projects when needed during the program season.

Please note:

  • We recommend serving at only one branch location during this program.
  • Volunteer positions are limited. Application does not guarantee acceptance into the Volunteen program.
  • Please allow up to 4 business days for your application to process.

Location
All ten branches of the Dakota County Library will be participating in this program for 2024.

Date/Time

Registration begins in April. Program runs June through August 2024. Schedules will vary by each library branch depending on program needs.

Duties & Responsibilities*

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Summer Discovery program assistance: help enroll youth ages 0-18 in Summer Discovery and explain how to participate in the program.
  • General event support: setup, cleanup, count participants, help with program supplies, collect feedback forms, prep supplies for future programs.
  • Create a welcoming library: variety of projects to organize, label or clean.

*Your specific tasks will be developed with the library’s Volunteer Coordinator. These tasks will be based on the library’s needs and your interests and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Between the ages of 13-18 during Summer 2024
  • Interested in working with children and families
  • Attend the orientation session
  • Volunteens and their parent or guardian must read and agree to the volunteer waiver and release forms

Required Training

Attending the orientation meeting is required to volunteer. Orientation times will be found on your application as you register or you will receive an email to remind you to update entries in your volunteer account if you have volunteered in this program before.

Activity Level

Mild - May include walking short distances over relatively level terrain. Periods of standing or sitting will be required. Comfortable shoes recommended.
