USHERING (ages 16+)

Most of our volunteers get involved by ushering for performances.

Usher Responsibilities Include:

  • Scanning tickets

  • Distributing concert programs

  • Assisting audience members to their seats, if needed

As a thank you, we provide Ushers with ticket vouchers to see future concerts, along with other perks.

AGE LIMIT: For the safety of everyone involved, ALL USHERS MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER and demonstrate effective customer service skills. WCO relies on ushers in emergency situations and strives to have the safest experience possible.

Scheduling is on a first come, first served basis.

COMMITMENT: Volunteer ushering requires you to be on your feet and able to move up and down stairs. Volunteer Usher hours vary. Time commitment is usually 2 hours per concert.

SCHEDULING & ATTENDANCE POLICY: We understand conflicts & emergencies arise; however, two no-shows to scheduled usher shifts could result in removal from the volunteer program. We rely on our ushers to be present and up to the task at hand for the entire shift, providing excellent customer service to our patrons.

PURPOSE: To provide quality assistance and service for the safety and comfort of the audience. TIME COMMITMENT: Volunteers need to arrive 45 minutes before the start of the concert and supervise the performance through the entirety of the production. The average time commitment is two hours. Minimum

DRESS: Volunteers are expected to wear a print-free WHITE or BLACK top and a BLACK skirt or slacks. WCO provides Usher Badges for all volunteers to wear while ushering.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Upon arrival at the venue, volunteers must check in with the Manager. She or He can be found in the lobby of the venue and will then assign duties and conduct training as needed.

Mission Statement

"To make classical music more accessible to the community."

Description

In 2014, a group of musicians came together with the same goal: to reach out to different and diverse communities with high-quality classical music, lowering ticket costs to make it easily accessible for everyone. Our musicians are active in their musical careers as soloists, chamber musicians, orchestral players, and professors. Since the WCO's inaugural year, we have visited and performed in many different venues and cities throughout Maryland, D.C, and N. Virginia areas to fulfill our mission. The WCO plans to continue our mission as an ambassador of classical music to people of all ages and cultures without compromising quality.
