About Girls Groove, Inc

Location:

19 R Street NE, Washington, DC 20002, US

Mission Statement

Girls Groove's mission is to prepare teenage girls in underserved areas in Washington, D. C. for careers in music production. This goal will be achieved through hands-on training using industry standard audio production equipment and software.

Description

Girls Groove was formed because women in audio production professions are underrepresented, making up only 8% of more than 12,000 audio engineers employed in the United States.

Girls Groove Inc will target girls between the ages of 13-18 in underserved areas of Washington, D.C. The girls will apply to be participants in a 12 week immersive program and will be chosen based on criteria formed by the Girls Groove board. The training will be held in a recreational vehicle that is presently being converted to a professional recording studio. This mobile studio will be a smaller version of the Lennon Educational Bus (lennonbus.org). At the end of the program participants will use their new skills to run a recording session of a selected artist in the Washington Metropolitan area.

We believe the skills the participants learn from the Girls Groove program will build creative and confident female engineers dedicated to effective communication and collaboration in the music production environment.
