Role Summary

The volunteer will be responsible for transporting residents safely from appointments and off-site errands. Flexible daytime hours, preferred Tuesday and Thursday availability.

Position Responsibilities

  • Drive shelter residents to and from the Sun Ray Shopping Center using the agency van
  • Ensure cleanliness and functionality of van, communicating with staff and other volunteers if concerns arise
  • Build positive, safe, and supportive relationships with clients


Position Qualifications

  • Have a valid driver’s license, current insurance, and good driving record
  • Clear communication, good decision-making, and time-management skills
  • Comfort with driving a van (no special license required)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and clients to foster a culturally inclusive environment

Time Commitment & Availability

  • Weekday availability; minimum commitment of one round trip per week
Supervision & Training
  • Attend Tubman’s Volunteer/Intern Orientation and Trainings
  • Supervised by Shelter staff

Each year Tubman helps nearly 25,000 people of all ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds who are facing relationship violence, sexual assault, exploitation, homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, or other forms of trauma. Description

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
