ORGANIZATION: Literacy Achieves (Founded as Vickery Meadow Learning Center)

Literacy Achieves' mission is to equip non-English speaking adults and their young children with English Literacy and life skills to promote self-sufficiency and the overall well-being of our students, their families and the greater community. We are in need of volunteer teachers for our adult classes. Volunteers do not need to have prior teaching experience, nor is it necessary to speak multiple languages. We provide curriculum and training to help change lives through literacy, including your own! Class sizes are small, approximately 15 students or less. Volunteer teachers are asked to commit to teaching 2 days for one week, choosing one shift between May 7 and June 27. Night classes are 2 hours in length (virtual and in person) and are from 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM. We use the same curriculum for virtual and in-person learning. Materials are provided, but we do ask volunteers for a suggested donation of $70 to assist with the cost of guides, workbooks, and other materials.
