This is a voluntary role. There is no salary but if you attend an event or session in-person, travel expenses within a 10-mile radius are covered by the project by a rating system.

You may edit your work remotely from anywhere in the UK. Attending key functions and events are mandatory. If the applicant is unable to attend, they must alert the Project Managers as soon as possible.

Working hours will be on an ad-hoc basis. We host trips during every school half-term and end of term holidays and have several bespoke audiences in schools and libraries. Recordings of these sessions are beneficial for the project. Most main events are mandatory to be filmed. Working hours will vary on a case-by case basis and plenty of notice will be given to the applicant of each event.

All safeguarding procedures and training are provided.

About Rise Up & Walk

Location:

Vestry Hall, 336 London Road, Mitcham, Surrey CR4 3UD, GB

Mission Statement

Rise Up and Walk is a project leading in Youth Social Action to address racial disparity for black & ethnic children and young people. We want to: Improve the opportunities for black and ethnic young people in our community so they can live life at their very best. Enable them to become more aware of their rich, vast, interesting history, contributions to society and place within it. Educate and empower children and young people to become an advocate for positive socioeconomic change and redress the balance of power in our communities to reflect all cultures as we are all stakeholders.

Description

Our umbrella charity is Women’s Arise Ministries Global, a faith-based interdenominational UK registered Charity that reaches out to women from all parts of the community by fulfilling its mandate to Love, Build and Encourage.

We applied for the 'We Move’ BBC Children in Need funding as we wanted to extend our reach to young black and ethnic people of today and support Youth Social Action - giving the youth a peer-led platform to become self-confident people who don’t see limits to their potential.

We will be running sessions that introduce speakers to the young people from a plethora of career paths - art & design, law, business, medicine, authors, chefs and many more. We want them to see successful people of colour achieving in their work so that the youth can learn from them and pursue powerful career and life choices.

We will also be giving Critical Thinking classes to increase confidence and help them be able to articulate and navigate school and workplace situations with integrity and intelligence.
