Have you always wanted to give back to your community, but you weren't quite sure if you could make an impact?
You absolutely can! For Volunteer Month this April, Housing Works is looking for individuals with a passion for fashion, interacting with people from all walks of life and the desire to create change wherever and whenever they can.
Housing Works offers integrated medical, behavioral health and supportive services, and over 750 units of housing, including Housing Works-developed community residences that serve people with HIV who face specific barriers to both the housing market and retention in effective HIV care.

All of our volunteers attend a New Volunteer Information Session, where our Volunteer Coordinators go over our organization and the volunteering roles we offer. Sign up via the form above to receive your invite to our info session.
Our information sessions are about 45 minutes in length and take place on recurring Thursdays, with the next on April 11th & April 18th, both at 6pm. Please send any questions to volunteer@housingworks.org, we're happy to help!
Volunteering Details
Housing Works operates 9 thrift stores and a Bookstore with the help of its selfless volunteers. We have 8 locations, counting the Bookstore in Manhattan and 2 in Brooklyn. Our thrift stores help generate revenue that provides funding for Housing Works' healthcare and housing programs. Read more about us here.
When you volunteer for one of our stores, you play a pivotal role on the team as a:
- Subject matter expert: Most of our volunteers pick 2 kinds of items we have donated to our stores, like literature and housewares, to focus on as their subject expertise and assist our customers with.
- Merchandiser: You'll take point in keeping our departments organized and neat with your own creative style!
- Donations Pricing & Processing: You'll play an important role in getting items out onto the sales floor.
