TUCK IN CALLS TO HOSPICE PATIENTS

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: St. Joseph Hospice - Mobile

We are seeking volunteers to help call our patients and their family members once a week to ensure a "tuck in" before the weekend. Our volunteers will be provided training and a guide to questions needed to be asked. The purpose of these calls is to ensure patients have all of the supplies needed for the weekend, to ensure they are comfortable, to give some TLC to the caregiver who is usually a family member and to help with the overall excellent service provided by St. Joseph Hospice. Volunteers MUST be 18 years old and able to come to make weekly calls to patients and families.

A commitment to 2-3 hours per week is needed. Volunteers will come to the office off of Dauphin St to make the calls.

Mission Statement

St. Joseph Hospice is a locally-owned agency dedicated to providing the highest quality hospice care to patients and families at this most crucial time in their lives. Our staff, comprised of compassionate, experienced, and palliative-trained professional, support staff and volunteers, work under the direction of a Board Certified hospice and palliative care physician using a team approach to care. St. Joseph Hospice is licensed by the State and certified by Medicare.

Description

Hospice is based on the belief that through sensitive, appropriate care and the support of a community, terminally ill patients and their families can prepare to face the inevitable challenges ahead. Volunteers make a difference to patients and their families, the staff of hospice agencies, their communities and to one another.

Each area of hospice serves a unique purpose and relies on the skill and dedication of volunteers. Volunteers are a vital part of the St. Joseph Hospice team approach to caring for those entrusted to us.

Hospice volunteers have important roles, which may include family care, nursing home visits, working at a health fair, or helping with an agency project. Each person brings a unique mix of talent and interests to the hospice experience and each volunteer is needed and appreciated by everyone in the hospice community.

Volunteers attend training seminars where they learn the hospice philosophy of intertwining the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of death and dying. Each volunteer has access to our staff of professionals to assist them in becoming comfortable dealing with patients and families faced with terminal illness.

Should you decide to become a volunteer, you will experience one of the most life affirming and personally rewarding gifts you will ever receive.
