About Us
Village Book Builders is a non-profit dedicated to empowering communities by providing access to safe local libraries, books, technology, and personalized student mentorship. Our mission, Hope Through Books, emerged from a passion for literacy and its power to foster critical thinking, empathy, and innovative thinking.
Noteworthy as the first runner-up in the Stanford Longevity Design Challenge (2020), the Engineering division of Village Book Builders is now seeking a proactive and passionate Data Science Team Assistant. This role is ideal for individuals eager to make a significant impact by utilizing their organizational and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meeting Facilitation: Take meticulous notes during weekly team meetings to ensure all details are accurately captured and communicated.
- Recruitment Support: Assist in the hiring process by coordinating interviews, documenting procedures, and engaging with potential candidates.
- Data Management: Support data analysis projects through tasks such as data cleaning and preparation. Manage and organize data using tools like Google Sheets.
- Project Coordination: Handle administrative tasks, schedule meetings, and help maintain project timelines. Ensure milestones are met within project constraints.
- Team Integration: Help new team members integrate smoothly into our environment through effective onboarding assistance.
- Cross-departmental Collaboration: Use strong communication skills to liaise with various departments, enhancing team collaboration and project success.
- Data Analytics: Perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and reporting using PostgreSQL or Tableau to drive actionable insights.
Growth Path:
This position offers a developmental trajectory starting with foundational data analysis tasks and advancing towards a specialized Data Analyst role. Continuous learning and improvement in project management and administrative skills are key aspects of this role, providing a solid base for professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 6-month commitment, preferably with a long-term engagement interest.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Exceptional English proficiency for effective verbal and written communication across all organizational levels.
- Experience in project management, with a proven ability to oversee timelines and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated capability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex scenarios.
- Familiarity with Google Suite and an eagerness to learn more about data management and analysis tools.
Preferences:
- Data Analytics Experience - either a Coursework or a Certification.
- Experience with Statistical Analysis, PostgreSQL or Tableau.
- A good grasp of data science principles.

You can work with us internationally by working in one of our libraries, or you can work with us domestically by helping coordinate new library opportunities.
