Volunteers who serve in the orchard and garden will help staff with gardening tasks such as weeding, planting, mixing soil and general upkeep. Garden Teams consists of 3-6 volunteers working on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule from April to November.

Projects and tasks associated with this program include pulling weeds, planting seasonal vegetation, preparing soil mixtures and completing other maintenance projects.

Schedule: Garden Team shifts are available Monday through Saturday with various morning and afternoon shifts. Times will vary depending on needs, but standard timeframes are:

Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon

Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon

Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon

Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon

Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon

Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon

This schedule is subject to change as necessary.

Requirements: Members of the orchard/garden team will be encouraged, but not required, to attend workshops through Kansas City Community Gardens.

Volunteers on the orchard/garden team need to be consistent and diligent about attendance especially during the dry season and harvest season.

During the heat of the summer, at least one volunteer will need to water the orchard and garden daily.
