EVENT PLANNER

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview

At Believe in Me, we envision a future where every child has the self-confidence they need to succeed. We are a dedicated team, funding and supporting children's charities that provide marginalized kids with a safe place to call home, a loving family, a sense of community, and ample opportunities to learn, grow, self-esteem, and experience joy. We are currently developing the 1st Gen College Hub app, aimed at empowering first-generation college students with comprehensive resources, personalized guidance, and a supportive community.

Role Summary:

We seek passionate and creative Volunteer Event Planners to join our dynamic team dedicated to empowering first-generation college students through technology-driven resources and support. As a Volunteer Event Planner, you will orchestrate virtual and potentially physical events that foster community engagement, provide educational value, and enhance the visibility of the 1st Gen College Hub app. You will work closely with our Community Engagement Team to design, plan, and execute events that align with our mission of providing marginalized children with the self-confidence and resources needed to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Event Conceptualization: Develop innovative and engaging event concepts that resonate with our target audience, including webinars, workshops, Q&A sessions, and networking events.
  • Planning and Coordination: Oversee all aspects of event planning, from initial concept to execution, including scheduling, platform selection (for virtual events), guest speakers coordination, and logistics management.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Marketing and Outreach Team to promote events effectively and ensure maximum participation. Collaborate with Content Creators to develop event materials and presentations.
  • Vendor and Speaker Management: Identify and liaise with external vendors, speakers, and workshop leaders, ensuring their contributions align with our event objectives and organizational values.
  • Budget Management: Handle event budgets prudently, ensuring high-impact experiences while adhering to cost constraints. Seek in-kind donations or sponsorships to offset costs where possible.
  • Feedback Collection: Implement mechanisms to gather attendee feedback post-event, using insights to measure success and inform future event planning.
  • Community Building: Leverage events to strengthen our community of first-generation college students, volunteers, and supporters, fostering an environment of support, learning, and empowerment.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in event planning, management, or coordination, with a portfolio of successfully executed events (virtual event planning experience is a plus).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a talent for networking and building relationships.
  • Creative thinker with an eye for detail and a passion for creating memorable and impactful experiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Alignment with "Believe in Me's" mission and values, and a genuine interest in supporting and empowering first-generation college students.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and social media platforms for event promotion.
Why Volunteer With Us?
  • Proven experience in application security or a related field, with a strong understanding of security protocols, cryptography, and vulnerability management.
  • Familiarity with security assessment tools and methodologies, including penetration testing and security auditing.
  • Knowledge of web and mobile application development and the associated security risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and act swiftly in response to security incidents.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with a remote, volunteer-based team.
  • A passion for cybersecurity and a commitment to using your skills to make a positive impact in the community.
