VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview

At Believe in Me, we envision a future where every child has the self-confidence they need to succeed. We are a dedicated team, funding and supporting children's charities that provide marginalized kids with a safe place to call home, a loving family, a sense of community, and ample opportunities to learn, grow, self-esteem, and experience joy. We are currently developing the 1st Gen College Hub app, aimed at empowering first-generation college students with comprehensive resources, personalized guidance, and a supportive community.

Role Summary:

The Volunteer Community Engagement Lead is responsible for fostering a positive, supportive, and engaging community experience within the Believe in Me app. This role involves strategizing and executing community engagement initiatives, facilitating mentorship programs, overseeing user support, and ensuring the app remains a welcoming and inclusive space for first-generation college students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Community Strategy Development: Craft and implement strategies to foster engagement, support, and collaboration among app users.
  • Mentorship Program Oversight: Facilitate the pairing of mentors and mentees, providing guidelines and support to ensure valuable mentorship experiences.
  • User Support Management: Coordinate the efforts of User Support Specialists to provide timely and empathetic assistance to app users.
  • Content Coordination: Collaborate with the Content Management Team to ensure community guidelines are upheld in user-generated content and forums.
  • Event Planning and Execution: Organize virtual events, workshops, and Q&A sessions to enhance community engagement and provide additional value to users.
  • Feedback Collection and Implementation: Regularly gather user feedback on the community experience, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance user satisfaction.
  • Volunteer Team Coordination: Manage a team of volunteers, including Forum Moderators and Event Planners, delegating tasks and ensuring alignment with community engagement goals.
Qualifications
  • Experience in Community Engagement: Prior experience in managing online communities, forums, or social media platforms.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to engage positively with a diverse user base.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Experience in leading volunteer teams, with a knack for motivating and coordinating distributed team members.
  • Empathy and Cultural Sensitivity: A strong understanding of the challenges faced by first-generation college students, with the ability to foster an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and planning skills, capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues within the community, enhancing the user experience.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using digital tools and platforms necessary for managing online communities and organizing virtual events.

  • Familiarity with security assessment tools and methodologies, including penetration testing and security auditing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and act swiftly in response to security incidents.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with a remote, volunteer-based team.
  • A passion for cybersecurity and a commitment to using your skills to make a positive impact in the community.
Location

This is a remote volunteering position with flexible hours to accommodate volunteers from various time zones.
