VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position OverviewAt Believe in Me, we envision a future where every child has the self-confidence to succeed. We are dedicated to empowering marginalized children by funding and supporting programs that provide them with a safe place, a loving community, and ample opportunities for growth. Our latest initiative, the 1st Gen College Hub app, aims to support first-generation college students by offering resources, guidance, and community support tailored to their unique challenges.
Role Summary
As a Volunteer Security Analyst, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and integrity of the "1st Gen College Hub" app. Your expertise will help protect sensitive user data and maintain the trust of our community. By identifying vulnerabilities, suggesting enhancements, and responding to potential threats, you will directly contribute to creating a safe and secure digital environment for first-generation college students.
Key Responsibilities- Security Assessments : Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities within the app’s infrastructure.
- Threat Analysis: Analyze potential security threats and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Incident Response: Lead the response to security breaches or incidents, including investigation, documentation, and implementation of corrective measures.
- Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure the app complies with relevant security standards and regulations. Advise on best practices for data protection and privacy.
- Collaboration and Reporting: Work closely with the development and technical support teams to implement security measures. Report findings and recommendations to the Project Manager and team leads.
- Education and Training: Provide guidance and training to volunteers on security awareness and practices.
- Experience: Proven background in IT security, cybersecurity, or a related field. Experience with web application security preferred.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of security protocols, cryptography, authentification, authorization systems, and security vulnerabilities.
- Tools: Familiarity with security assessment tools (e.g., OWASP tools, Nessus, Nmap) and incident response methodologies.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze security systems and seek improvements continuously.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting findings and making recommendations.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
- Adaptability: Comfortable volunteering in a flexible, evolving project landscape.
- Commitment: Willingness to volunteer 2-3 hours per week and engage with a team of passionate volunteers remotely.
- Proven experience in application security or a related field, with a strong understanding of security protocols, cryptography, and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with security assessment tools and methodologies, including penetration testing and security auditing.
- Knowledge of web and mobile application development and the associated security risks and mitigation strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and act swiftly in response to security incidents.
- Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with a remote, volunteer-based team.
- A passion for cybersecurity and a commitment to using your skills to make a positive impact in the community.
This is a remote volunteering position with flexible hours to accommodate volunteers from various time zones.
