The People’s Vanguard of Davis is a 501(c)3 non-profit, community-based watchdog and news reporting organization that publishes daily coverings of courtrooms across California and Vermont. The Vanguard seeks to bring transparency, accountability, and fairness to local government, while promoting social justice and democracy, and adhering to principles of accuracy and fairness in our reporting.


THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR UNDERGRADUATE-LEVEL INTERNS TO GO INTO THE COURTROOM AND OBSERVE LIVE TRIALS.


Both in-person and online opportunities.


We have volunteer opportunities for both college and high school students. We ask all volunteers to commit to 15 hours a week for 3 months. We have an eight-hour training session over four days for all interested interns. We also have a required weekly meeting where interns get the opportunity to meet with attorneys and judges and also get essential advice in topics they wish such as writing advice, law school admissions advice, etc.


WE PREFER INTERNS TO BE FROM CALIFORNIA.

Course Credit is available with arrangements with the institution.

Description

The People’s Vanguard of Davis is a 501(c)3 non-profit, community-based watchdog and news reporting organization that publishes daily coverings of courtrooms across California and Vermont. The Vanguard seeks to bring transparency, accountability, and fairness to local government, while promoting social justice and democracy, and adhering to principles of accuracy and fairness in our reporting.

We are looking for writers in an exciting but challenging program monitoring and reporting on court cases in the local courts as well as reporting on daily criminal/social justice news.

Interns are sent into the courtroom to take notes, monitor cases, and report on the happenings as well as record observations about current court cases. This internship will provide students the opportunity to gain experience in the courthouse via watching and monitoring cases as well as experience writing articles for a local online publication.
