Position Overview: As a Cat Foster, you will offer your home as a temporary refuge for cats or kittens in need. This role involves caring for everything from single kittens to entire litters, moms & babies, adult cats, or those with special needs, providing them with the love, care, and socialization they require to flourish. It's an incredibly rewarding experience that directly impacts the lives of animals, preparing them for a successful transition into permanent homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe, clean, and loving environment for the foster cat(s) or kitten(s).
  • Attend to the daily needs of the foster cat, including feeding, grooming, and playtime.
  • Socialize the cat or kittens to a variety of people, pets, and indoor environments to prepare them for adoption.
  • Monitor health and behavior, promptly communicating any concerns to our medical team.
  • Administer any required medications or treatments as directed.
  • Participate in our adoption process, potentially including bringing the cat to adoption events or meet-and-greets with prospective adopters.
  • Facilitate the adoption and place fosters in to homes with the best fit

Requirements:

  • Complete a volunteer application on our website kalamazooanimalrescue.org
  • A compassionate heart and a love for cats and kittens.
  • The ability to provide a nurturing environment for cats or kittens of various ages and needs.
  • Willingness to follow all care instructions provided by our team, including dietary and health monitoring.
  • Patience and commitment to the socialization process, understanding that each cat's needs and timeframes may vary.
  • Availability to bring the foster cat to our office for any necessary check-ups
  • Participate in adoption events (1 event / month)

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of cat care and behavior; previous experience with cats is a plus.
  • Good observational skills to note any changes in health or behavior.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating internally and with adopters

KAR is located in Portage, MI and has animals in foster homes and cats at the main office location. We pride ourselves in finding quality homes for our animals and helping the community with our low cost Wellness Clinics and pet owner education.
