Position Overview: As a Dog Foster Parent, you will provide a temporary home to dogs or puppies in need, offering them care, love, and the stability they require. This role is suitable for individuals or families who have a passion for animal welfare and are willing to open their homes and hearts to dogs looking for their forever homes. Whether it's caring for a litter of puppies, a single adult dog, or a dog with special needs, your contribution will be a vital part of our mission to save and enrich lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe, loving, and stable environment for foster dogs or puppies.
  • Attend to the daily needs of the foster dog, including feeding, exercise, training, and companionship.
  • Administer medications or treatments as required, with training and support from our medical team.
  • Socialize the dog to a variety of experiences to prepare them for life in their forever home.
  • Communicate regularly with our foster team, providing updates on the dog's health, behavior, and overall well-being.
  • Bring the foster dog to our center for any scheduled vaccinations, check-ups, or adoption events.
  • Work with potential adopters on finding the best fit for the foster dog, and complete adoptions

Requirements:

  • Complete a volunteer application on our website kalamazooanimalrescue.org
  • A genuine love for dogs and a commitment to their care and well-being.
  • Ability to provide a safe, clean, and loving environment for a foster dog.
  • Willingness to follow all veterinary care instructions and our organization's foster policies.
  • Basic knowledge of dog care and behavior is helpful but not required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills for updates and coordination with the Dog Team
  • Patience and flexibility to accommodate the needs and challenges of foster dogs.
  • Problem-solving skills to handle the unexpected or behavioral issues with support from our team.

Founded in 1991, we've been devoted to providing refuge and care to homeless, stray, and unwanted cats and dogs in Kalamazoo County and the surrounding areas. Description

KAR is located in Portage, MI and has animals in foster homes and cats at the main office location. We pride ourselves in finding quality homes for our animals and helping the community with our low cost Wellness Clinics and pet owner education.
