Position Overview: As a Screening / Adoption Counselor, you are at the heart of our mission, helping to guide the future of the animals in our care by meticulously screening adoption applications. This role requires a blend of compassion, attention to detail, and professionalism as you interact with potential adopters to ensure the best outcomes for both the animals and the families hoping to welcome them. As a bonus, this volunteer opportunity can be done from home!

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and screen pet adoption applications with a keen eye for detail.
• Use phone and email to communicate with applicants, conducting interviews and gathering additional information as needed.
• Provide exceptional customer service, maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor in all interactions.
• Utilize basic computer skills to update applications and conduct research
• Collaborate with the animal care team to understand the needs and personalities of each pet.
• Educate potential adopters on the responsibilities of pet ownership and the specific needs of their prospective pet.

Requirements:

• Strong attention to detail to accurately assess applicant suitability.
• Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in using the phone and email for professional correspondence.
• A customer service-oriented attitude, with the ability to handle inquiries and conversations with empathy and professionalism.
• Basic computer skills, including the use of email, word processing, and database software.
• A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to finding the best match for both pets and adopters.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Previous experience in customer service or a similar role is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions as well as with a team
• Knowledge of basic animal behavior and pet care is preferred but not required.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
