Position Overview: As a Bottle Baby Foster, you will play a crucial role in the early lives of orphaned kittens at their most vulnerable. These kittens require bottle feeding, nurturing, and monitoring to ensure they grow healthy and strong. This position is both demanding and incredibly rewarding, offering a unique opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of these vulnerable animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide feedings to kittens every 2-3 hours, including overnight, using a bottle and specialized kitten formula.
  • Stimulate kittens to urinate and defecate, as they are unable to do so on their own at a very young age.
  • Monitor health, including checking for signs of illness or distress, and communicate with the veterinary team as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kittens' environment to ensure a healthy, hygienic living area.
  • Socialize kittens to prepare them for adoption into loving homes.
  • Record feeding amounts, bodily functions, and weight gain to monitor growth and health.

Requirements:

  • Passion for animal welfare and a love for cats and kittens.
  • Patience, as working with bottle babies can be time-consuming and occasionally challenging.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain feeding and care schedules.
  • Willingness to learn about kitten care, including feeding techniques and identifying signs of illness.
  • Availability to attend a training session on the care of bottle baby kittens.
  • Commitment to the well-being of the kittens and adherence to Kalamazoo Animal Rescue policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with animals is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong observational skills to detect health issues early.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with the rest of the volunteer and medical team.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly.

KAR is located in Portage, MI and has animals in foster homes and cats at the main office location. We pride ourselves in finding quality homes for our animals and helping the community with our low cost Wellness Clinics and pet owner education.
